Choosing the Program

A nursing aspirant can either take the long way or the practical one. Conventionally, the Bachelor's Degree in Nursing takes four years to complete. This includes classroom lessons about chemistry, anatomy, physiology, psychology, microbiology, nutrition, behavorial sciences, and basic skills in nursing. A student also has to undergo practical classes in patient care at hospitals to prepare them for the actual world of medicine.

A program in practical nursing usually takes 12 to 18 months, which mostly consists of practical training in patient care. For individuals who want to serve the country, they can work for the government as a nurse assigned on military bases. This gives them better benefits.

Upon graduation, one has the opportunity to accelerate her career by taking advanced courses to become a Nurse Practitioner or acquire a Master's Degree in Nursing.
